During the academic year, the Laboratory and our research team welcome pupils from primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools, as well as students from other institutions, for educational tours.
Visitors gain hands-on experience of the world of productive insects. Younger children safely observe colony life through a special observation hive, while older students become familiar with colony management in the field, wearing appropriate protective beekeeping equipment.
Visitors also discover sericulture, interacting with both silkworm larvae and adult moths while learning about the insect’s life cycle, feeding habits and silk production. At the end of the visit, students receive silkworm larvae so they can continue rearing them in their classroom as an educational activity.
Our research team also visits schools as part of educational events and outreach activities, offering pupils a similarly interactive introduction to honey bees and silkworms.
